Satan tempted Jesus to turn the stones into bread. “Man does not live by bread alone…” was Jesus’ response. Jesus could have turned the stones into bread but instead He quotes the truth that we LIVE by EVERY WORD that proceeds from the mouth of God. We live by the truth of scripture.
Many people DO ATTEMPT TO LIVE BY BREAD ALONE; even many who claim to be Christ followers. Examples of people living with the desire to be strong, healthy, and satisfy their hunger outside of God’s provision is rampant. MANY OF US ARE TRYING TO TURN THE STONES OF A SUBSTANCE, A PLEASURE, AN ACTIVITY, ETC. INTO BREAD. IT WON’T WORK. THIS IS WHY MANY ARE STARVING, IN NEED OF HEALING, AND THE WALKING DEAD SPIRITUALLY SPEAKING.
HAVE YOU HAD YOUR SPIRITUAL FOOD TODAY? When we don’t take time to feed upon the words of Life birthed into existence by the Spirit of God, we should not be surprised when we don’t feel satisfied. My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. (Proverbs 4:20-22)
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU ASKED GOD TO STIR UP A HUNGER AND A DESIRE FOR FEASTING AT THE TABLE OF THE LORD?
The Israelites were provided bread in the morning and meat in the evening. They were also instructed not to eat leftovers.* The spiritual principle is we cannot live by the Word we heard a week ago or a month ago. A WEEKLY, MONTHLY, OR YEARLY FEAST WILL NOT ENABLE US TO GROW OR MAINTAIN SPIRITUAL HEALTH. We need daily spiritual meals.
So, how was your breakfast this morning? Breakfast is our most important meal, according to many health experts and doctors.
HOW ABOUT A LITTLE OF GOD’S BREAKFAST BREAD ALONG WITH YOUR BAGEL? AND, PERHAPS, A SCRIPTURAL STEAK DINNER IN THE EVENING TOO – just like the Israelites? Many of us are adamant, “I never eat leftovers!” Perhaps, from God’s perspective, you’ve got that right? Every Word of God is OUR DAILY BREAD.
Dear Lord, Forgive me for fasting Your Word and feasting more on physical food than Your Words of Life. Forgive me for spending more time preoccupied and busy with so many other things and for not making time to receive Your truth into my heart. Forgive me for running after so many other things that never satisfy or fulfill the true longing of my heart. Thank You for stirring up my appetite to feed on the Bread of Life. Help me to make time for feasting at Your table a priority. Thank You for bringing order and the proper balance in my life spiritually, physically, emotionally and mentally. As I sit feeding upon Your Word today, bring the life, healing, peace, wisdom, conviction, correction, joy and strength that only You can provide. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
