A Sunday Word and a Prayer

When we really become aware of the consequences of our pride, sin, and destructive and divisive words, our humbled hearts should lead us to true repentance.

God loves people, but He hates the sin that destroys us from within.

God is not moved by performance, religious traditions, or sacrificial duty, but He is moved by repentant and broken hearts bowed before Him.

“The sacrifice You desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.”

Psalm 51:17 NLT

A prayer:

Break our hearts, O God, for what breaks Yours. Forgive us for our pride, our sin and rebellion in our hearts, in our words and in our actions. Forgive us for our complacency and compromise, our lack of mercy, grace and forgiveness, and our lack of sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. May we return to the heart of the golden law of the Lord to pray for, speak and treat others the way You desire us to treat them, and the way we desire to be treated. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

“Keep creating in me a clean heart. Fill me with pure thoughts and holy desires, ready to please You. May You never reject me! May You never take from me Your sacred Spirit! Let my passion for life be restored, tasting joy in every breakthrough You bring to me. Hold me close to You with a willing spirit that obeys whatever You say. Then I can show other guilty ones how loving and merciful You are. They will find their way back home to You, knowing that You will forgive them. O God, my saving God, deliver me fully from every sin, even the sin that brought bloodguilt. Then my heart will once again be thrilled to sing the passionate songs of joy and deliverance! Lord God, unlock my heart, unlock my lips, and I will overcome with my joyous praise! For the source of Your pleasure is not in my performance or the sacrifices I might offer to You. The fountain of Your pleasure is found in the sacrifice of my shattered heart before You. You will not despise my tenderness as I bow down humbly at Your feet.”

Psalm 51:10-17 The Passion Translation
“So repent [change your inner self—your old way of thinking, regret past sins] and return [to God—seek His purpose for your life], so that your sins may be wiped away [blotted out, completely erased], so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord [restoring you like a cool wind on a hot day];…”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭3‬:‭19‬ ‭Amplified Bible
