ENLIGHTENED by TRUTH

Pride keeps many from reading, studying, believing, receiving and following God’s Holy Word. We live in a culture filled with opinions, viewpoints, my truth, your truth, no truth and no absolute truth. Sadly, we are witnessing the results of turning away from the truth God has clearly stated throughout His Word.

What should we do?

First, pray. Ask God to show you your own sin and ask for forgiveness. If you cannot think of anything, well, there is where you start by repenting of your pride. Then, begin praying for others.

Read the Bible daily. The Bible is filled with God’s wisdom and His instructions for living enlightened. How can we follow God’s instructions if we never read them? As you read His Word of Truth, pray for understanding and discernment. Also, pray and ask God to help you follow His truth and wise principles for living. If we are not willing to follow God’s Word, this leads to pride and disobedience. Not only will we remain in the dark, but we will open ourselves up to greater deception.

In Ephesians 1:17-18, the Apostle Paul reminded the church at Ephesus that he had not stopped praying for “God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light…”

“Enlightened” in Greek is the word photizo, which means “to cause something to come to light and be clear to all.” This was the heart of Paul’s prayer.

Many today claim to be enlightened, but reject the wisdom of God’s Word.

Note: There are numerous resources available to help us correctly understand the Bible. One helpful resource is at your fingertips on your IPhone. Download the YouVersion Bible app and choose a Bible plan on a topic or subject you desire to understand from God’s perspective. For example, if you are struggling with unforgiveness, choose a Bible plan covering this issue. Go to: http://www.youversion.com or download the free app on your IPhone.

Thank God for His always available love, mercy, grace and forgiveness.

Give what you receive from God to others. None of us can follow God’s instructions without the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. All of us need God’s amazing grace. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you. He will.

Grace is not an excuse to sin or to keep living in sin; grace gives us the power to overcome our selfish human nature and empowers us with a love and desire to honor God and love and help others.

Through a true heart’s desire and by the power and help of God’s Spirit, we can follow God’s instructions and teachings. This is how we live out the Father God’s calling to come out of the dark and live in the light. God desires us to live enlightened by Truth.

Finally, join a Bible Study group and remain committed to living and growing in the light of God’s Word alongside others throughout your journey here on earth. Remaining continually isolated from others who love God and His Word is not good for our spiritual health. God created us for relationship with Him and other fellow believers. We do actually learn and grow better together. The disciples, who were students of Jesus, stayed connected as a group listening to His teachings, and learning in close fellowship. This is our example.
